A Brownsville community is outraged Monday as a 9-year-old hit-and-run victim fights for her life.
Police say the incident occurred at the intersection of Rockaway and Glenmore avenues Sunday. According to police, Nacirema Brown was trying to cross Rockaway Avenue when she was hit. Witnesses say the driver jumped out of his car, yelled at the victim on the ground and sped off.
Authorities say they found the Nissan Maxima involved in the accident in front of the 73rd Precinct. Police were later able to arrest the accused driver, 41-year-old Jerry Coleman. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.
Brown is in a medically induced coma at Brookdale Hospital.
