Now more than ever many families are facing financial hardship, in response a number of organizations are stepping up and offering to help.

The city is launching a food distribution program where people will be able to request a delivery right to their doors.

Drivers with TLC licenses just have to sign up online and will get paid $15 an hour, plus reimbursement for gas mileage and tolls.

Kam Doucourv is one of dozens of drivers who enrolled and started making deliveries Wednesday morning through an app.

"The most important thing here is to serve those who can't provide for themselves...so it's great for both sides,” says Doucoury.

Hunts Point Recreational Center is one of many other anticipated locations that will be used for pickup spots. Drivers will pull up and head out to assigned homes.

"There's two different shifts. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.,” says Doucoury.

The program is in its beginning stages. The city says in the next couple days they'll be ready to release more details- including steps on where and how to request a delivery.For Doucourv, it is an opportunity to support his wife.

"My wife is a nurse and I see she's going to work every day and I'm always looking for what I can do. This is the time we have to help one and another,” he says.

Drivers who are interested on joining this program must create an account on the city's website.
