Dyker Heights residents are once again decorating their houses with the most impressive lights this year.
Nearby residents refer to the area from 84th to 86th Streets between 11th and 13th Avenues as "Dyker Lights" due to the area's yearly holiday displays.
The decorating tradition began in the 1980s, when one resident began going above and beyond when decorating. The resident inspired his neighbors to take part in the festivities as well.
While most of the residents decorate their own houses, they often have to depend on professional companies to install multicolor displays that can cost up to thousands of dollars.
