Leaders in East Flatbush are asking for action Thursday aimed at making streets safer as family members said goodbye to an 11-year-old boy who was killed this week.
Police say three cars were racing down East 42nd Street early Saturday and one of them struck Rondell Grant Jr.
"He shouldn't die in vain," says state Sen. Kevin Parker (D-Brooklyn).
Parker says he asked the Department of Transportation to look at issues related to speeding in the neighborhood in 2006, but it was concluded that no action was needed.
"Whether it's speed bumps or traffic lights or stop signs, we need something to slow the traffic down in this community," he says.
DOT officials acknowledge a study of East 43rd Street was done in the past and say it will be done again if a formal request is received.
