An artist from East New York specializes in hand-printed silkscreen artwork.
David Ortiz combines what experts call a centuries-old process, using silkscreens to produce different colors with photo-editing software.
"It's a lot of work," Ortiz says. "It takes literally about 10 to 11 hours to make one print depending on how many colors, and a lot of times I use between 6 and 14 colors."
His portraits and abstracts of pop culture sell for about $1,000 each.
Ortiz says he knew he wanted to be an artist ever since he was in the sixth grade, when he met a graffiti artist at his local handball court.
"He told me that we all have a voice, and our voice can be in color," Ortiz says.
