Eateries in Crown Heights have begun seeing boosted sales of Caribbean dishes ahead of the West Indian American Day Parade.
Condrad's Bakery is one of many businesses on or near the parade route that are serving up Caribbean favorites. Hungry crowds packed the Trinidadian bakery, which is famous for its traditional specialties like currant rolls and coconut turnovers.
A couple of blocks away, lines were out the door at popular Trinidadian eatery Ali's Roti Shop. Many customers ordered the namesake dish - a type of flatbread filled with meat, seafood or vegetables.
Both eateries will be open for the parade on Labor Day.
