With just 12 days left until Election Day, local leaders and members of the organization Common Cause New York announced the kickoff of a statewide election protection program that aims to stop voter suppression.

Early voting in the state gets underway this Saturday. Common Cause New York, Attorney General Letitia James and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams are making sure voters know their rights in the upcoming election.

Hundreds of volunteers will be monitoring polling places, helping voters with questions they may have about voting or referring them to the election protection hotline regarding voting problems they may be experiencing.

James is calling the program the first line of defense against misinformation about the election--citing complaints of robocalls to discourage people from voting, which she says her office has been getting.

Organizers say they are also taking their efforts online. They are monitoring social media to assist anyone posting about voting issues and to strike down false information being posted about the election.
