Ex-Giant begins walk for 9/11 responders in BK
Former New York Giants Defensive End George Martin began his walk across the country for Sept. 11 first responders in Brooklyn Monday.
Martin launched his ?Journey for 9/11? at Brooklyn?s Beginning with Children Charter School. The school presented him with a donation to kick off the fundraiser. Martin hopes to raise $10 million for rescue workers.
?So many of them are facing respiratory illnesses and a variety of other ailments,? Martin said. ?It?s my feeling that we, as the beneficiaries and recipients of their generosity, should be doing more to help them in their plight.?
Meanwhile, Brooklyn residents will be commemorating the sixth anniversary of the terror attacks in various ways across the borough Tuesday. The Vatican?s organist will play a special concert Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Saint James Cathedral Basilica in downtown Brooklyn.
State Sen. Martin Golden will host a memorial at the 69th Street pier at 8 p.m.
Councilwoman Sara Gonzalez will lead two candlelight vigils Tuesday night in Red Hook and Sunset Park.
