Former state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. has been found guilty on four counts of embezzlement, while a judge declared a mistrial in the case against his son.
Pedro Gautier Espada was accused alongside his father of looting money from their nonprofit Soundview Healthcare Network to fund lavish lifestyles.
A federal jury returned the partial verdict for Espada after two weeks of deliberations. Later in the day, a judge declared a mistrial in the remaining conspiracy and tax fraud counts against the politician and in all counts against his son.
