The Part of the Solution (POTS) organization has helped the Bronx for decades, and now it is undergoing some change as a new executive director steps in.
POTS follows the mission of being a loving community that nourishes the needs and hungers of all who come to its door. Executive Director Alicia Guevara plans to follow through on that mission.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Guevara stepped into her new role in November and immediate got to work, feeding thousands over the holidays.
POTS provides clothing, food, showers, haircuts and various medical services for those who need it.
Guevara says her workplace feels a lot like her childhood home, saying, "Our home was the home where people were fed. There was always a cup of rice and milk. When kids didn't have anywhere to go they had us. My mom was at the helm of that."
But now Guevara is at the helm of expanding POTS, using the lessons her mother passed on to her.
"We will be moving forward with expansion. The building next door, we are going to demolish and turn into a state-of-the-art building that responds to workforce development needs of the community."
