Police are searching for a fake cop who they say is using his assumed identity to steal cell phones in Williamsbridge Oval and Devoe parks.
According to authorities, the suspect identifies himself as an officer and displays a police-type shield, but is not in uniform. They say he asks to borrow their phone to solve a theft and then takes off.
Officials say the suspect has worked his scheme on at least five teenagers since May. He's described as Hispanic, in his late 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and heavyset with tattoos on both forearms and a mole on his left cheek.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
