Hundreds gathered Sunday to honor a young firefighter who died a year ago Saturday doing what he loved.
Daniel Pujdak, 23, fell from the roof of a Williamsburg building on June 21, 2007 while fighting a fire. On Sunday, people came to his Brooklyn firehouse where a memorial plaque was dedicated in his honor. The street where the firehouse sits was also renamed Daniel F. Pujdak Street.
The sale of prints of a painting that was dedicated to the firefighter is expected to raise money for a scholarship in his name at St. Francis Prep, his alma mater.
Pujdak's younger brother, Matt, was recently sworn into the FDNY. He carries on his brother's legacy. "I took his badge," said Matt. "I have a tattoo on my back of him and I just carry him in my heart."
