Mourners gathered Friday for the wake of a toddler whose father police say beat her to death.
Nylah Lewis, 16-months-old, received severe injuries on Father's Day. Five days later, she died of traumatic brain injuries, according to authorities.
The city's Public Advocate Letitia James and Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez were among those in attendance at her wake.
Police have arrested her father, the 18-year-old Shaquan Taylor, on multiple charges. Gonzalez says he aims to upgrade those charges to include manslaughter, pending a grand jury's decision.
The wake came less than 24 hours after a community vigil in Nylah's honor showered an outpouring of support on her family.
Her funeral is Saturday morning, after which she will be cremated.
