The parents of a woman who was gunned down on Linden Boulevard say their daughter was killed in a senseless crime that could have been prevented.
Angel Martinez says his daughter, Jeanette, had filled a complaint with police hours before she was shot after a man in her building attacked her. Angel Martinez says his daughter, the mother of a 4-year-old son, had problems with the man and his girlfriend for years and had filed an order of protection against the woman.
The Martinez family believes the man or his girlfriend is responsible for their daughter's death. A friend who was with Jeanette Martinez was also shot and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Community advocate Tony Herbert is now calling for stronger legislation to help police better enforce orders of protection.
