The family of the Brooklyn man caught in the New York City steam pipe explosion is planning to sue.
Gregory McCullough was trapped in his tow truck during the blast, which occurred July 18. He suffered many injuries, including third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body.
McCullough has been placed in a medically induced coma to control his pain. He remains at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center in the burn unit, and has undergone surgery to remove dead skin.
Doctors say McCullough?s medical bills could total over $1 million, and that doesn?t include expenses the family will need to cover care for McCullough after he leaves the hospital.
McCullough?s family is optimistic. They believe he will survive and they say he still has a long life ahead of him.
The family?s lawyer say there will be a lawsuit. They are investigating now, but they say neither Con Edison nor the city have expressed any sympathy or concern for the family.
The family?s lawyer also claims Con Edison visited the site of the explosion seven times in the eight months prior to the blast. The last visit was on the day of the explosion.
