The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation held its annual National 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb for Fallen Firefighters in Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing, Queens. 

FDNY members, families and supporters climbed 110 flights of stairs to honor the 343 FDNY members who lost their lives at World Trade Center on 9/11 and those who died in the years after the attack from 9/11-related diseases. The 110 flights represent the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.  

"It feels like we’re climbing with their strengths on our back," said FDNY Fire Commissioner, Laura Kavanagh.

The NFFF is a nonprofit created by Congress to honor America’s fallen firefighters, provide resources to their families and work on reducing firefighter deaths and injuries.  

The event benefits the FDNY Counseling Unit Service and the NFFF programs for families of fallen firefighters.
