FDNY: Large Cypress Hills fire injures 2 firefighters, displaces residents

Firefighters say the fire started at 82 Nicols St. and quickly spread to the surrounding houses at 84 and 80 Nicols St.

A fire ripped through several homes on a block in Cypress Hills Friday morning.
Firefighters say the fire started at 82 Nicols St. and quickly spread to the surrounding houses at 84 and 80 Nicols St. A neighbor inside 84 Nicols St. told News 12 that she saw the smoke coming through her outlet and it only took a matter of minutes for the fire to spread to the surrounding houses.
Video taken by neighbors living on the block show the flames starting around 7:43 a.m.
By the time firefighters arrived, they say the flames covered both the front and back of the building.
Two firefighters were sent to the hospital. Several neighbors have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
