FDNY responds to fire at laundromat in Mill Basin
Firefighters responded to a laundromat fire in Mill Basin Saturday morning, News 12 is told.
FDNY officials say that a call came in around 7:45 a.m. regarding a fire in part of a strip mall on Avenue U.
Witnesses at the laundromat say they smelled something burning and saw smoke coming out of a dryer.
The 20-year owner of the laundromat says Saturday is one of the busiest days of the week for doing laundry and that a dryer is likely to blame for the fire.
News 12 is told that at least four businesses have suffered severe damage as a result of the fire, including a restaurant and liquor store.
“It's heartbreaking with the two busiest days coming up and I’ll probably be shut down for the next couple of weeks and a lot of major damage done to the store,” says liquor store manager Michael Pesochinsky.
No injuries have been reported.
Fire officials say they are investigating the cause of the fire.
