One person is dead following a partial building collapse in Brooklyn Monday, according to the FDNY.
The collapse was reported at 454 42nd St. around 1:30 p.m., according to police.
Police say a brick retaining wall collapsed and trapped workers under the debris. DOB inspectors say workers were hired by the owners of 453 43rd St. to perform masonry repair work on a retaining wall and were granted access to the adjoining backyard of 454 42nd St. as part of the ongoing work.
According to the DOB, there were no DOB permits issued for any construction work at either property.
The DOB says the workers were excavating the length of the retaining wall without adequate shoring, which resulted in the wall’s collapse on 42nd Street.
A partial vacate order was issued for the backyards of both 42nd and 43rd Street, according to the DOB.
The DOB says the investigation is ongoing.
The FDNY says one victim was transported to NYU Langone Medical Center.
