After spending the past several months living in their freezing apartments and using cold water, the tenants at 1382 Nostrand Ave. finally got their wish yesterday when code enforcement officers from the Deparmtent of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) showed up and turned the heat and hot water back on.
To heat her apartment, tenant Vanessa Hunt has been using several space heaters in every room. She says she just wants her heat to stay on.
Since late October, the building on the corner of Linden Boulevard and Nostrand Avenue has received more than 20 violations for having no heat or hot water in the building.
"Unfortunately, we have had a long and difficult history with the owners of this building," the HPD said in a statement. "They have failed in their responsibility to provide the basic level of habitability to their tenants as required under law."
