Fringe group to picket Brooklyn synagogues
Members of the fringe, extremist Westboro Baptist Church plan to protest outside Brooklyn synagogues Sept. 26.
The Kansas-based group, which is infamous for its "God Hates Fags" picket signs, is targeting synagogues, schools and community centers around New York during what Jews consider to be the holiest 10 days of the year.
The group plans to picket outside Congregation Shomrei Emunah, East Midwood Jewish Center, Congregation Beth Elohim, Union Temple of Brooklyn and Kane Street Synagogue.
Rabbi Andy Bachman, from Beth Elohim, e-mailed his congregants about the protests. He told members to "calmly pass these protesters and walk directly into our building without incident."
