Butterfunk Kitchen is serving up seven generations of soul food in Brooklyn.
The restaurant on Prospect Avenue in Windsor Terrace decorated with family pictures on the walls almost feels like eating at home, owner Chris Scott says.
He runs the restaurant with his wife, and they serve up comfort food like Amish-style dumplings and lemonade-brined chicken, his spin on a classic dish.
"Growing up, my grandmother would always have the soup dumplings in the house at all times basically. We always drank lemonade with our fried chicken so that’s where I got the idea for the brine," he says.
With a variety of dishes that are full of old memories, Scott says serving up some new family traditions for the next generation in the kitchen is what it's all about.
"The important thing about what we do here [is] it's all over seven generations of authentic soul food," Scott says.
