Funeral being held for FDNY chief killed in blast
Family and friends are saying their final goodbyes today to the FDNY chief who was killed in a building explosion earlier this week in Kingsbridge.
Thousands of firefighters are gathering at Annunciation Church in Yonkers to mourn the death of Deputy Chief Michael Fahy.
The president of Cardinal Hayes High School is expected to speak, along with eulogies coming from Mayor Bill de Blasio, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro and Fahy's widow.
Fahy was killed in an explosion Tuesday while responding to a gas leak in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.
The explosion may have been caused by a tampered gas line and police have arrested two suspects.
Fahy was with the FDNY for 17 years.
The 44-year-old, posthumously promoted to deputy chief, leaves behind a wife and three children.
The funeral service will be streamed by the FDNY via Facebook.
