An 11-year-old Bronx girl who was badly burned at a sleepover party was sworn in Thursday as an honorary firefighter at FDNY headquarters in Brooklyn.

Jamoneisha Merritt is still recovering from physical and emotional scars, according to her mother.

Her mother says the honor she received for her bravery by the FDNY has given her a new support system.

Merritt was at a friend’s sleepover in August when she woke to boiling water being poured over her. She suffered second-degree burns on her face and shoulders, spending significant time in Harlem Hospital. During her stay, firefighters visited her and decided to do something special for the girl, who also expressed interest in being a firefighter when she gets older.

Merritt also toured a Harlem firehouse Thursday and had lunch with firefighters as part of her honorary day.
