Energy-efficient brownstones are expected to grace the landscape of Bed-Stuy in the near future.
The Nzinga Townhomes development will be built on what is now an empty lot at New York Avenue and Herkimer Street. The project has drawn some criticism from those who say the homes may not mesh with older buildings in the neighborhood.
But others say the buildings will be a great addition and could help spur the area's revitalization. "Modern buildings, if you respect the height, the width and the street line, fit in beautifully," says James Garrison, the architect of the development.
Garrison hopes to break ground on the brownstones in 2009.
