Community members gathered Sunday to make Greenpoint more beautiful and environmental.
The "Greening Greenpoint" project, sponsored by the city's Parks Department and “New York Tree Trust,” planted trees at the American playground on Franklin Street and Noble Street.
Officials say the project has plans to plant at least 500 trees over the next three years. They say those trees will eliminate 13,000 pounds of local air pollution and will treat nearly 800,000 gallons of yearly storm water run-off.
The New York Tree Trust was established in 1994 to protect and preserve all the trees around New York City.
