Greenpoint residents mourned the loss of a beloved Polish-born sculptor Sunday, a week after his body was discovered at a city beach.
Residents attended a memorial service at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church to remember the life and accomplishments of Mieczylslaw "Karol" Partyka. Police say Partyka went to his boat at Gateway Marina and never returned. Family members say Partyka had a heart condition, but they do not think it was his cause of death.
Partyka was known in Brooklyn for his statue of Pope John Paul II and his bronze work. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
