Health experts offer tips for avoiding West Nile virus
Mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus have been found in Queens and Staten Island, along with two counties outside the city.
People infected with the virus often experience flu-like symptoms, and in more serious cases can suffer neurological damage. Some people with the virus experience no symptoms at all.
Health experts are offering tips to avoid infection and stay safe this holiday season.
They say to wear protective clothing such as long sleeve shirts and pants between dusk and dawn.
Health experts say people should also wear insect repellant, and discard any standing water.
The city is set to start spraying for mosquitoes throughout the five boroughs this week.
