A local basketball legend is facing the biggest challenge of his life, and now his alma mater is stepping up to help in any way they can.
Dwayne Pearl Washington starred on the Boys and Girls High School basketball team in the early 80s, turning heads with his flashy style of play. Last year, his brain tumor relapsed, and he's been under supervised care ever since.
To help cover some of his medical costs, the school held a fundraiser and basketball game to honor his legacy.
Washington also had his No. 31 jersey retired by the school, making him the first player in school history to reach that accomplishment.
