A Highland Park woman is being called a hero Friday after she died trying to save a child from drowning.
The woman worked as a nanny for a Long Island family. Police say she died Thursday after jumping into a backyard pool. The nanny was trying to save the life of a 3-year-old in her care.
The 49-year-old woman moved to the U.S. from Argentina seven years ago with her husband. She and her husband lived with her nephew and his children in Highland Park. Her nephew says his aunt did have a fear of water and couldn?t swim. However, he says he is sure she didn?t think twice before jumping in to save the child.
The 3-year-old boy is recovering at a Long Island hospital. Funeral arrangements for the woman are pending.
