After construction work and intermittent water shutoffs, a water main break and a gaping hole have left residents in a section of Greenpoint fed up.
Residents on Calyer Street say their water had been shut off and turned on throughout the week. They thought that the work was completed, but the sounds of fire engines and water shooting out of a hole woke them up around 3 a.m. Friday.
The water from the main break covered the road, sidewalks and flooded a basement, according to one homeowner. People who live on the street say they are concerned about not having access to water and the quality of repairs once they are made.
Marisa Jeffries has taken to storing water to ensure that she can flush her toilets and take care of her baby.
Con Edison says a contractor was digging into the ground and hit an underground vault that belongs to the company. Electric service hasn't been interrupted.
News 12 has contacted several agencies for comment, including the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Buildings.
