Recently started construction on 153rd Street is not the long-awaited commencement of construction on a new Grand Concourse bridge.
The Department of Transportation says there is no schedule for the bridge construction. The work under way is actually the demolition of two buildings being cleared out for a community garden.
Community Board 4 says the bridge should have been built back in 2009. The project has been on hold due to city budget constraints.
The planned bridge would connect Concourse Village West with Park Avenue.
