A judge has blocked more people from moving into a new homeless shelter on Rogers Avenue in Crown Heights, just days after its opening.

Neighbors had been fighting the shelter's opening for months, but Monday the first 10 families moved in.

We're confident that our clients will be warmly welcomed to the neighborhood," the city Department of Homeless Services says. "Together with support and compassion, we will make this the best experience it can be for these families as they get back on their feet."

A day later, a group of neighbors filed a lawsuit, arguing that their area is oversaturated with homeless shelters already.

"We want people to be sheltered, but we also want quality of life for the kids here," says Martin Harding, one of the shelter's opponents. "Everyone should take part and share the burden of the homeless people."

Other residents say they have mixed feelings about the shelter.

"I'm concerned about these people, because I don't know if they are troublemakers," says Robertha White. "But if they are good people, I really don't mind."

And others support the shelter.

"I used to live in a homeless shelter in Brooklyn," says Debbie Williams. "It's a good thing, because there are a lot of homeless people out here."

A hearing at Brooklyn Supreme Court Thursday will determine the next move at the shelter.
