Some Brooklyn kids spent Saturday gardening in Starrett City for a good cause.
They planted vegetables to feed those in need at a garden kick-off party organized by Sisters with Purpose.
The Brooklyn-based nonprofit teaches young people valuable life skills and hosts a food pantry twice a month.
Organizers tell News 12 that even though they host a food pantry twice a month, there often remains a shortage of food. They say they believe the garden will be lessen the shortage by growing fresh vegetables and herbs.
“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” donated $10,000 to the nonprofit back in March.
Organizers tell News 12 the kids will be back every few weekends to maintain the garden and any money left over from the donation will go to a Thanksgiving food drive.
