A beloved pastor in Melrose was remembered Saturday with a street co-naming ceremony after he passed away last year.
Loved ones gathered at the Greater Eternal Baptist Church to show their support for the memory of Reverend Dr. Henry Bolden.
Bolden founded the church more than 50 years ago and now his name will now live on at the corner of Elton Avenue and East 156th Street.
Friends and family say he was a spiritual light who was instrumental in supporting the growth of the neighborhood and active in helping others connect with God.
Friday marked one year since his death from natural causes. His widow, Priscilla Bolden, said the co-naming of the street corner was great step towards closure.
"During this time and during this pandemic, I was not able to have a service or to give him a flower or say goodbye. He just died in a time that I just couldn't do nothing, and I'm so appreciate of this," Bolden said.
