The defense called witnesses Thursday in the trial of NYPD Officer Peter Liang, who is accused of manslaughter in the 2014 death of an unarmed man.
Officer Peter Liang shot and killed Akai Gurley, 28, in an unlit stairwell of the Pink Houses in 2014.
The city's medical examiner testified that the bullet ricocheted off a wall before accidentally striking Gurley, and Liang's attorney insists that the slaying was a freak accident. But prosecutors accuse Liang of recklessness.
The defense team says it will call more witnesses Friday, and Liang himself could testify Monday.
