Members of several Long Island chapters of the NAACP gathered on Presidents Day Monday to condemn President Donald Trump, accusing him of fueling a racial divide.

More than five chapters of the civil rights organization stood together in Huntington Station today to denounce the president’s handling of race relations.

William Moss, president of the Islip Town NAACP, pointed to the president's reported derogatory comments about Haiti and African nations, as well as the recent announcement that "temporary protected status" would end for Haitians. Moss says such incidents have had an effect locally.

In the past two months, he says he's forwarded 15 complaints of alleged racial discrimination to Suffolk's Human Rights Commission.

"It's ranging from parents complaining about mistreatment in school, to employment issues, discrimination in employment," Moss says. "It's been busy and I think that's in part due to the leadership of our president."

Other concerns were raised as well. The leader of the Eastern Long Island branch of the NAACP says KKK fliers have recently turned up on car windshields in Southampton and Hampton Bays. And the president of the Huntington NAACP branch says too many of the town's recent appointments have gone to white males.
