Brooklyn native and two-time heavyweight boxing champion Shannon Briggs is going back to where it all began to gear up for some new projects currently in the works.
A new docuseries in collaboration with American former professional boxer Mike Tyson is currently in the works. Briggs says it depicts their Brownsville hometown in hope that those watching are inspired.
Briggs is also opening a new gym in Brownsville. He says it symbolizes his outreach to help the community after observing the murder rates and homelessness throughout the city.
Briggs held his heavyweight title from 1997 to 1998. The boxer is now investing his time into some new projects. However, he says before the title, it was very challenging to keep his eye on the dream.
Briggs details that he lost his mother to a heroin overdose when he was young and that he lost his father in prison. Growing up, he says he had no other option but to keep going.
All of this, Briggs says, has molded him into the person he is today and that he hopes he is remembered as the fighter who was always himself.
Briggs says eventually he would want to branch out and open gyms worldwide. He is also launching his own THC line called Cannonbis. He says he has used cannabis throughout the years and that this new business adventure is very exciting.
