Long Island College Hospital has started notifying employees who are being laid off as part of a cost-cutting plan.
About 150 workers are expected to lose their jobs at the hospital, which is also shuttering its maternity ward because of a budget shortfall.
Hospital officials say their bottom line has been hurt by dropping in-patient enrollment and cuts to Medicaid. They say more job cuts and closed units loom in the future.
Officials with the hospital say they are offering support to help laid-off employees find new jobs.
