Doctors and nurses at Lincoln Hospital are hoping to lower the prevalence of asthma in the borough with the help of an expensive state grant. The New York State Department of Health recently provided the hospital with a $900,000 donation. Doctors say asthmatic patients make 1,500 emergency room visits each year. Hospital officials say they have agreed to form a coalition with up to eight other Bronx hospitals to educate and improve the lives of asthma patients.
