A Bedford-Stuyvesant woman says that someone stole her mail when she wasn't home, and among the taken items was a package containing her deceased mother's ashes.
Jodi Korelitz says the ashes were sent to her in the mail. She says the ashes were stolen from the lobby of her apartment building Wednesday morning.
In surveillance footage, a man appears to be captured breaking into her building and stuffing packages intended for delivery to multiple tenants into garbage bags.
Korelitz's landlord, Nathan Rosenberg, is offering a $1,500 reward to anyone who leads investigators to the suspect or helps get the ashes delivered to their rightful recipient.
Police say they are investigating the theft, and have also connected the suspect to other robberies in the area. They say the suspect could face federal charges for mail theft.
