The NYPD arrested a 42-year-old female in connection to a fatal stabbing that took place on a Bx19 bus on Sunday night.
Ebony Jackson has been charged with murder and manslaughter after allegedly stabbing 55-year-old Lamont Barkley on the bus at the intersection of East 149th Street and Gerard Avenue.
Police believe Lamont Barkley was stabbed after a disagreement with a man and woman who were also on the bus. When police arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call, the two suspects had already run off.
Barkley was taken to the hospital with a stab wound to the torso, where he was pronounced dead.
Police could be seen at the bus stop near an out-of-service MTA bus blocked off with caution tape early Monday morning. The riders waiting for the bus said they avoid taking the route after dark if they can and they think public transit is more dangerous than ever before.
“And it’s sad because this is the only means of transportation for a lot of people,” says Stevens, a frequent rider of the Bx19.
Recent data from the NYPD does show that transit crime is up almost 4% compared to 2021.
Last Friday, another Bronx man was stabbed and killed at the 176th Street subway station in Morris Heights. Police have made an arrest in that case.
