Man pulled from Coney Island waters pronounced dead at hospital

A man found floating in the waters off the Coney Island boardwalk early Monday morning died at a hospital.
The NYPD says the call came in just before 7:30 a.m. from people walking on the boardwalk who saw the man in the water.
Red flags were posted along the beach at the time, indicating that there was no swimming allowed.
A maintenance worker told News 12 that a fisherman was the first to notice the body near the rocks. He told security, who then called for help.
FDNY crews pulled the man from between the jetty rocks and brought him up to the boardwalk.
First responders attempted to perform lifesaving measures before taking him to an ambulance.
He was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sources tell News 12 the man who died is possibly in his 30's. We spoke with people on the boardwalk like Shay, shocked to hear the news.
“That’s pretty young, he hasn’t even lived fully yet," said Shay.
Police are still working to identify the person and determine how he ended up in the water.
Even in the off season, people like Pat Ritter say they're always practicing ocean safety.
“I don’t go in the water. Unless there’s a lifeguard, I don’t go in the water," said Ritter.
The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
