For many Bronx churches, today likely marks the final service they will hold in rented halls and auditoriums of public schools.
A city law, which wound its way through the federal courts, bars religious institutions from renting space in public buildings.
A federal appeals court ruled in favor of the city's law and the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case, meaning the appeal court?s ruling stood.
For pastors and parishioners of the affected churches, many are holding out hope of a last-minute injunction to allow them to stay, or for the state to pass a law allowing them to return to the schools.
