A massive sinkhole along Mermaid Avenue is giving residents plenty of headaches.

Residents say they hope the sinkholes will not cause their homes to receive the dreaded red sticker from the city and be condemned. The Department of Buildings told one resident that sinkholes could be a sign of a bigger problem. Flood damage caused by Superstorm Sandy may have compromised the foundation of homes.

In total, 15 homes along the block are believed to have been compromised because of the sinkhole. One resident said she was told to stop any post-Sandy repairs until the homes are inspected by the city.
