Council members and school officials announced Tuesday that several million dollars in government funding will go toward improvements to Medgar Evers College.
Included in the $2.2 million will be upgrades for various programs and academic centers, including the centers for law and social justice and women's development, which provides assistance to students in need of housing due to domestic violence or joblessness.
Students at Medgar Evers say they are grateful, but believe this money is long overdue. They hope the city continues to invest in their college and most importantly, its students.
"When we visit other colleges we see that their facilities are better than ours, so we feel neglected," says Marsha Escayg, a senior at Medgar Evers.
The money will also be spent on new technology resources and upgrades to the school's child development center, which provides child care and education to the children of students, faculty and staff.
