Milford couple starts grassroots campaign to keep Russian-made vodka off shelves

Howard Knapp, a Navy veteran, and his wife Pat joined millions around the world as they watched in horror at the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They felt they had to do something.
Together, they have been making calls to local liquor stores in an effort to get Russian-made vodka off the shelves.
At least five of the 15 stores agreed to stop selling, including BevMax, who owns a chain of liquor stores.
Jason Cutler, from the Startford store, says he received the order from his boss after he spoke with the Knapps.
“I think it’s a great idea,” says Cutler. “I think the company is doing the right thing by taking all of the Russian vodka off of our shelves.”
Mrs. Knapp says she was humbled by everyone’s eagerness to stand with Ukraine as Russia invades the country.
“I was pleasantly surprised and so happy that they were willing to do this,” says Knapp.
BevMax is encouraging customers to buy Ukrainian vodka in an effort to show solidarity.
