MOMO Dressing becomes 1st tenant at BK Army Terminal annex
A salad dressing company became the first tenant of the annex at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
Instead of a ribbon-cutting, city officials and the makers of MOMO Dressing poured some of the product out to celebrate the manufacturing venture Wednesday.
The group was joined by chocolatier Jacques Torres, who has another portion of the terminal.
The husband and wife owners of MOMO Dressing, Masaki and Yukimi Momose, came from Japan six years ago and started their business at a farmers market in Manhattan. They say that without the help of the New York City Economic Development Corp., they would not be able to afford the steep New York City rent.
"Sunset Park is still in Brooklyn, and it's easy to commute to Manhattan and also Long Island or Westchester, but still Sunset Park is very reasonable and especially this space," says Masaki Momose. "Brooklyn Army Terminal is owned by the EDC, so they give us a great price per square feet."
The EDC says it hopes to entice more food manufacturers to the space.
