The New York Department of Transportation will suspend alternate side of the street parking in several Brooklyn neighborhoods to replace street signs.

Starting July 7, alternate side parking will be temporarily suspended in four Community Board 6 neighborhoods - Boerum hill, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Gowanus - to make room for new signs and to make parking easier.

Residential street cleaning in these neighborhoods will be reduced from three hours to 90 minutes, and from twice a week to once a week for the duration of the replacement project.

?I think they can just fly by on a sweeper, and in three hours I think I can pretty much cover it by foot,? says Nora Carriello, of Downtown Brooklyn.

Park Slope was introduced to the new parking rules last month. Since then, more than 2,000 signs have been changed in that neighborhood.

The Department of Sanitation will enforce the new rules starting Monday, July 14.

The DOS says the rest of the Community Board 6 neighborhoods - Red Hook and Columbia Heights - will see temporary suspensions of alternate side parking later this year.
