Several new COVID-19 testing sites will be opening across Long Island this week to ease the long lines that have wrapped around urgent care facilities.
Beginning Tuesday, Northwell Health will operate drive-thru testing sites at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.
Community testing sites are also going up at the former Babies R Us in Bohemia and at 1 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park.
On Wednesday, New York state-run testing sites will open in Hauppauge and Hempstead.
Suffolk County is also opening sites with varying hours, though one of them won't start operating until next week.
"I recognize the frustration that parents have trying to find testing for their kids and for themselves," says Dr. Matthew Harris, of Northwell Health.
Harris says some patients are now showing up at the emergency room looking for tests. He says they should visit the new sites that are opening up instead.
"Both Northwell and others in the community are ramping up testing. It will become more widely available, and hopefully those test results will turn around in a quicker period of time," Harris adds.
The Suffolk County and state-operated sites will be taking walk-ins, but the sites operated by Northwell are by appointment only.
Appointments for the Northwell testing sites are filling up quickly. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, follow this link.
